Koinonia

"Always in every prayer of mine for you all making request with joy, for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now; being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will preform it until the day of Jesus Christ:...." Philippians 1:4-6 KJV

I am very aware that today is Good Friday. I started writing this, then remembered, and started to do another post when I felt checked. So let's go with this. The title word is the transliterated Greek word that means fellowship, communion, partaking together, walking one direction together, sharing in something together, participation etc... it is what the Lord Jesus accomplished on Good Friday (or whenever it was - not getting into that endless argument). So when we spend our time today in prayer and in remembering in thankfulness, let's remember that it was for fellowship with us (individually and corporately) that He died. He did something profoundly amazing by and through His death. He eliminated the very definition of distance between me and God. He just wiped distance out of the way - and wiped sin off the map.

I refer you to Romans 5-6 and Hebrews 9-10. He did what no other sacrifice could do, and enabled us to come unfettered with Him into the Throne of grace and glory always. It is our dwelling place. We are co-heirs with Christ. By and through His sacrifice, we have everything given and open to us in His name and by faith in Him. What a Savior!

In this passage, Paul is letting us know his reason for such joy in praying and remembering them was their  "koinonia" (fellowship, sharing etc... all the above) in the gospel with him from when they were first brought to Christ. Then he lets them know that his confidence in their ability and power to do all the Lord would call them to do was in the work of Christ - and He would complete it. Such joy, such confidence and such overwhelming goodness! Our Jesus will complete in us and for us - all. I trust your Good Friday is spent in gratitude and open hearted reception of all the goodness it purchased for you in the fellowship of God!
